As soon as the memories of Halloween fade away, our phone is already buzzing with messages from loved ones to prepare the holiday season. Conversations about hosting Thanksgiving, selecting the perfect gifts, navigating awkward comments from that one uncle and ensuring we don’t miss out on the magic of the Christmas feast have officially begun.
Each year, the arrival of the holiday season brings with it a whirlwind of stress. We find ourselves collectively caught up in the frenzy of consumerism and the pursuit of a aesthetic celebration, often losing sight of the genuine spirit of Christmas. So, how can we approach these year-end celebrations to enjoy time with our loved ones while coming out of the holidays feeling calm and refreshed ?
1. Set Realistic Expectations

Acknowledge that the holidays DON’T HAVE TO BE PERFECT ! Before being a showcase for the perfect little family on Instagram, the holidays are above all a time of year to come together and share good moments. In every family during the holidays, there’s always something that goes wrong, a dish forgotten in the oven that burns, or an argument that spoils the day. So let’s stop comparing ourselves to what we see on social media and focus instead on the small moments of joy that come our way.

What I’m suggesting is that this year, you don’t take the initiative.Let others have the chance to make suggestions and organize things. I know it can feel scary when you’re used to being in control.
You might think that nothing will get organized unless you do it yourself. But reality can be different, it gives everyone the responsibility for the holidays. So yes, maybe it won’t turn out exactly as you imagined, but it will allow a new dynamic to emerge, and give you the chance to relax.
5. Embrace Minimalism

Apply the principles of minimalism to your holiday preparations. Focus on meaningful experiences and quality time rather than overwhelming yourself with elaborate decorations and excessive activities. Consider opting for timeless Christmas decor and traditions over the trends that demand constant updates. By simplifying your approach, you create space for the true magic of the season
6. Reduce Mental Load: Set Boundaries

Learn to say no when necessary. Set boundaries to protect your time and energy, ensuring that you’re not overcommitting to social events or additional responsibilities.You can, for instance, attend just one work event instead of all the celebrations.

It can also help you chill out on social media and not feel like you have to have the best, most picture-perfect holiday ever.
